Saturday: April 15th 1916; Basra Yesterday I went fishing with Sanders to Gurmit Ali where the new channel of the Euphrates joins the Tigris. We fished from a floating cylinder ridge but our tackle was very unsuitable and we caught nothing. Next time we must be better equipped. This afternoon the moist southerly wind changed to the North. With it the sky became cloudless and promises more settled weather. We hear that the Turks have been flooded out of some of their trenches and suffered heavy losses during the evacuation. The floods certainly are interfering with the efforts of the relieving arm, ut optimism is kore evident today.
