[1918] He must have been a very vicious old boy as he had regular barbed wire entanglements round his place. The only way I could get in was up a pine tree and over a cliff inside was a place a little bit like Greys wood with paths through it. There must be cock in these parts in the winter I should think as the undergrowth is ideal and it is full of springs.
Next day we started off in the train which runs for miles around a place like Bray head all tunnels arches and retaining walls of beautifully finished masonry work. They must have spent money regardless on it. We crossed a big river the Rhone I think and then turned inland towards night.
Next morning we stopped at a little place in the dark where we had breakfast and very gallantly washed.
