Saturday: January 22nd 1916: Nagiman (Peshwar)

With my regiment the 2/5th Gurkhas I have been encamped at Nagiman. We are a unit in an infantry Brigade detailed to guard the North West Frontier against attack or raiding expeditions by the Mohmana tribe.

News reached us this morning which was calculated to give us a more active part in the great war. We and the 2/6th Gurkhas, a regiment also in this Brigade were to mobilize at the greatest possible haste to proceed to Mesopotamia for service with Expedition Force “D”. Doyle, the D.A.D.M.S Peshwar brought the news personally to me with instructions to medically inspect this afternoon the 2/5th and 2/6th Gurkhas and report by evening the number in each battalion fit for service
