Was entitled to the day off

8th January 1916

Very fine morning. Was entitled to the day off but the R.E. sent down for road working parties of 50 each to make mule tracks on the Matterhorn and as [?]A Company evidently did not think it nice that any of their officers – one of whom was on no duty – should go out I had to take A Coy’s party.
Post in – one from [?]Meaghen, and Punch from Cousin Dolly.
Wrote Meaghern and Wilfie Nickson.
Compulsory Church parade ordered for tomorrow.
