thinking what an awful experience it must have been for a routed and harrassed army, almost dying of thirst to be in sight of a great river yet to be driven from its banks by deluge of shot and shell. A fierce tropical storm burst over our camp this evening. Everything was flooded. Tents were whirled away or torn asunder unless quickly retrieved by clinging to the poles. The wireless erection was one of the first to go. The iron posts and cross wires fell with a crash. The rain was torrential and soon the camp was a sodden mire.
