Having completed my observations on Natural History I again take up the thread of my journal to record in brief the petty affairs of daily life. We are on the march at last wit 150 miles of desert before us. We are glad to be off; I look forward with interest to the hot and weary trek over the pathless wilderness. Up out of bed at 4.30am when the morning air possessed a cool, refreshing nip and the Eastern sky was faintly tinged with the coming day. The usual trouble with transport-mules followed; some breaking away from their drivers, others casting their loads, all causing trouble and commotion and no small amount of amusement. My stretcher mules were the worst; they always are, not from any special vice in the
