floating weed, consisting of innumerable small and separate leaves resting freely on the surface of the water. Every frog, as it moved about amongst these little weeds became covered with a layer of tiny green leaves. These adhered all over the frogs body and concealed it from view. Tortoises, swimming to the bank, became similarily clothed in a leafy garment and sat unseen as they sunned themselves on the bank. The water weeds thus protect both the frogs and the tortoises; and in return for this protection, I suspect that the frog and tortoises, in their journeys, tend to dispense the water-weed from channel to channel.
