My dearie this was not so good a day, and no letters yet is distressing, Still the news I suppose is still OK I have become a little confused and out of my depth now as I dont know the places that are now being taken.
This morning I found some soldiers playing cricket and joined in the game for about an hour but it was hard work making the ball reach the wicket or hitting it far though some of the soldiers made astounding clouts amongst the tents. Last night some of the younger and more jovial spirits arrived home very gay everyone had gone to their tents and they began what they called a raid on the tents. Fortunately before it arrived at mine one of the occupants raided (as far as I could gather from the din) made use of a whip to drive them off and apparently rose what seemed to be a ‘a bloody weal’ across one of the raiders face.
