This afternoon we had great golf.
[5 September [?1917]] this successfully localized the struggle which became very bitter indeed but it ended without anything more serious than a lot of other distasteful language. Well then this afternoon we had great golf. I and Hume (Belfast) played ?(Belfast) and ?(Canada). They only halved 2 holes. Then I played the Belfasts best ball & didn’t lose any holes. They were sort of 12 a 20 deep & not up to that, During the afternoon (?) and I drive. I like the Belfast men very much especially me. (name unknown). He told me that Pollock of the North of Ireland CC was the best batsman in Ireland and called me Horne. Such is fame! The Welsh Clergyman I told you of I think must really be an Irish Priest. For he was educated at a religious place at Douai. And that doesnt sound a place for Welsh no-coms
