Soon after starting, the Army Commander’s Launch, with a river gunboat as escort, passed us coming down stream. Later a fine river paddle boat, one of twelve powerful vessels being built at Glasgow, came driving past on her trial river trip. These boats should remedy our transport difficulties on the Tigris.
Unable to reach Kurna tonight. We anchor in the stream.
