My dearest Mary We had our first smell of gas yesterday Early in the morning I was wakened up by an absolutely ferrocious cannonade, so continuous that you couldnt distinguish one report from another There was also a bad smell of chlorine the unspeakable Huns having launched their infamous gas I think that the reception they met with on getting out to attack from our artillery was so murderous that they all got back again as quick as possible. It will be amusing to see if they try another one. The Motor Cyclists were fairly busy. I wasnt on the road, my bike being temporarily out of commision
