There is always considerable chance of Bulgars attacking

6th November [1916] Monday

Quiet night. There is always considerable chance of Bulgars attacking up the valleys and trying to scupper us. They are alleged to have attacked the Wilts – I don’t think! Imagine a [?] of 2000 Bulgars attacking on a front of 800 yards, being driven off at the wire and leaving no dead at the wire and in the ravines!
Why it is nearly as funny as the story of the [?]Scots attack in France last year or the Cheshires the other day here. However if they like to come, their funeral not mine!
Colonel showed Sykes a hill that needed reconnoitering a mile or so in front of here and offered a military cross for a prisoner or information. Sykes offered the job to me and on the first opportunity I am going out. Stapleton gone to hospital.
