Unfortunatly this is all about 12 miles away & without a camel I couldn’t get there.
The C.R.E. here a Capt Alexander of Rathgar got a gazelle this morning when he was down at a new well we are digging about 7 miles away. It is a lovely little animal but not very much bigger than a good hare.
Yesterday I got a “Billy” brought up by a funny old Australian who went out from England 30 years ago with £30 now an M.P. & a Lord Mayor worth no end of a lot of money. The “billy” consisted of a sandbag full of all sorts of grub cigarettes this writing paper chewing gum etc with a letter from Miss Kitty Short of Melbourne.
We all got one in the mess & the enthusiasm in the mess when we opened our “Billys” was intense.
The worst of it was they were intended for Australians & we only got them as the old boy brought up too much.
