The bathing place I went to is a great slab of rock

7th October 1916 Saturday

Woke early after good night – what a glorious change to a tent again after stuffy rooms.
Counting the men waiting to leave Hamrun by the next boat for England, in the 17 days I was there 40 men went to England and about 15 to Convalescent Camps for further service in Salonika.
Regatta here this afternoon and aquatic sports desperately slow. Cut off the last three hours and went for a glorious bathe alone. Find myself very soft and in very bad training. However a few hours rowing a day will change that. Awfully pretty little bays round here. The bathing place I went to and had to myself is a great slab of rock running 25 yards into the middle of the bay and giving a clear 20 feet of water off it. Water far more salt than any I have seen before.
