their nationality is not even a name; they care nothing whether they be governed by Turks or Infidels provided they be permitted to enjoy their little lives in peace. The Base Hospitals are thronged with wounded, and we learn that heavy fighting is now in progress and that instructions have been recieved to be immediately prepared to admit 2,500 wounded with more to follow.

On board the ship all day. We expected to disembark this morning but have yet had no definite ordesr. A short but severe thunder-storm broke over the town this evening. The lightening was unusually vivid and at each flash the sky and water shone with a strange violet hue
