Palmed off a Servian franc

26th November 1915 Friday

Rained like fun all night and this morning. [?]Inlying and Fire Picquet.
Paid Smellie heavy messbill of 35.40 up to and including 25th November (13 days). Incidentally palmed off onto him a Servian franc which is not currency in this country.
Quiet day and too wet for work. One parade in the afternoon to see that men’s greatcoats have the necessary hooks and eyes on in place to button back from the knees like the French [?]. This is a new rule and would seem to indicate considerable greatcoat marches are suspected in the near future.
Brigade Route march in greatcoats ordered for tomorrow. The fact that it will be Saturday does not seem to bother the brasshats for they order Haversack Rations. The Brigade by the way, though some of the men are still sleeping out in bivouacs, have about a tent apiece and now I hear have actually taken a tent capable of sheltering 15 men, for latrines for a staff of 3!
