[14th September 1916] complete, and then to withdraw in our own time was no small achievement. The fact that our losses were comparatively few while the chastisement we inflicted was very severe adds to the merit of the achievement.
The most important effect of our operations has been to nip in the bud a threatening combination of Arab tribes.
The total number of our opponents on Monday had probably risen to 8000 by noon. Their losses are reliably reported to be 400 killed and 650 wounded.
I am confident that the 15th Division will add to the laurels gathered in this, its first general engagement, when I next have the honour of leading it into action.

16th Sept. 1916 Major General
Commanding 15th Division.
