Milk is delivered by bringing the goat along the pavement

26th September 1916 Tuesday

Quiet morning in hospital. Big mail in from Salonika, but nothing for me. Went into the town by gharry in the afternoon with Brocklehurst. Had tea and an ice, knocked about and came out.
Much impressed by the simple and masterly way of doing things here. Domestic cattle are unknown here. Ideal milk and goats are the only choices. Milk is delivered by bringing the goat along the pavement to your front door and milking it there! Very neat and reduces the risk of adulteration to a minimum. Milk carts are quite unknown. Several new officers in Hamrun and including a man from George’s batt. And old Capt Melbourne Lancashire Fusiliers.
Back to dinner and bed early. Wrote Joy Vallely and Frank Stephen.
