come on board a vessel at long distances from land and have made records off the occasions in a previous journal. On this voyage the same has occurred in the Persian Gulf. On the 6th and 7th March locusts came on board at long intervals on five different occasions; at one time a small swarm appeared. They always arrived from the direction of the Persian shore as though they were making a a course for Arabia. The weather was fine and beautifully calm. *From the frequency with which this species is found, flying over the open sea, from the direct course that it maintains and its great migrating powers I have no doubt that it habitually passed over those two great arms of the ocean, the Persian Gulf and the Red sea
