[3rd August 1916] she went, well satisfied at being again afloat.
Later our own difficulties commenced. We grounded; then by dint of veering and reversing we again floated; then again, we firmly stuck. As the wind was strong, and in our teeth, the captain could do but little to float the boat, so he decided to remain aground until the wind should subside. In the evening it grew calmer so we made an effort to get free. The paddles, however, would not shift the boat; she was firmly aground. We passed out two ropes, one from either bow and directed our men to haul us into deeper water. This was for a while successful but we again grounded and so remained for the night.
