[13 March 1917] as larks – it was only a bit of a leg pull for the old Hun. They often have a bit of a joke that way. One of our officers who went to stop <a bit> with Flying Corps chaps who were working for us, said the first time he went up, what with the contorsions [sic] they went through upside down in & out every way he was jolly glad to get back to earth again.
We were working with an awfully nice set of chaps – I’m sorry to say one has just recently been killed.
Certainly it’s a queer sight when there are maybe forty machine at the same time over your head. I feel nearly sure myself that this war is to be won in the air.
Well I am thankful to say that after another very cold spell of winter weather it really looks as if spring had come at last. Through I should say this winter
