One spider (Marked 22/8/16) carries its clutch of young spiders on its back. They cling in a cluster to the upper surface of the parent’s abdomen.

Floods. In May the current of the Euphrates daily slackens, the level of the stream steadily sinks, the floods commence to subside. Soon patches of desert, now green with verdure, peep through the retreating waters; palm-groves, that once stood above the watery waste, begin to overlook the solid land; Arabs migrate from their island villages to seek the new and succulent pastures. It all calls to mind that Biblical story of the waters destroying the children of man.
