This movement; if carried out rapidly and silently, escape from the village should be prevented from two sides.
No. 2 party: ‘The circling movement of No. 1 party would would enclose the village on two sides; a third side was naturally cut off by the river; but the fourth side, to the North West, would be still open for the inhabitants to escape. Of all sides this was the most important as on that side lay a clear open space on the other end of which was the neighbouring village of Sultanal Manahi. And we presumed that, if the Arabs fled, they would most probably dash over this open ground to seek shelter with their neighbours.
