I tell you that yesterday I could see them walking about quite unconcernedly and indeed our own people too. I think the mud there makes any fighting impossible & theyve got an Entente on. I saw a good many prisoners the other day on the road they were very nice I thought. Mostly very boyish and seemed to get on very well with the tommies. Dyou know? I think the British tommy has a good deal of affection for the German and gets on very well with him. I dont think the Tommy has ever quite got hold of the Poilu. I am enjoying the war very well these last few days. I think it is preferable being nearer the business to being in a peaceful village and having to go up daily or nightly. I think one gets the home idea wherever one is and only thinks of going to another place as not nice because it isnt where you take your meals & sleep. I wonder does this apply to the inf. and do they only look on raids
