Have my Tommy’s tunic complete now and wore it on duty

18th November [1915]

Very cold night followed by a hot bright day. Orderly officer as might have been deducted from the fact that the Battalion was in orders for a move. It is a standing joke that I am Orderly officer on the first day of each move. Was orderly officer leaving Eastbourne for Knockholt, again moving Knockholt to Seaford, leaving Aldershot, each move in France, leaving France and landing in Greece. Pretty complete record. Seaford to Aldershot the only blank. Battalion move put off for 24 hours for some unexplained reason. Performed ordinary duties of orderly officer. Watched in the afternoon in the intervals of my duties the match A, B and Hdgrs officers v C and D officers in which C and D won 1 goal (Capt Hall) nil: was unable to play on account of duty. Nothing occurred during the day, except that the post again failed to turn up. I wonder what will happen to post when we are up country when this happens here in Salonika.
Have my Tommy’s tunic complete now and wore it on duty much to the amusement of my friends.
Wrote to Ellen, Grandfather and Frank Moran, Kathleen and Alice yesterday and Wilfie the day before.
Heard jackals to night. Not unlike the baying of foxhounds but with an even greater variety of note – about 800 yards away.
Visit from Smith saying that our move was off indefinitely. Kitchener in Salonika today and gone again. Rumours of 10 Div being cut off up country by the fall of Monastir. Rumours of the sinking of a mail boat due here today.
