31st August 1916 Thursday
General’s Inspection of camp 8.30 am. Seemed to go off all night.
Sykes back yesterday after nearly three months in hospital. Still looking very ill.
Another very hot day.
Had to move our bivouacs and mess from the gulley up the hill again. Mosquitoes!
Letter in from Wilfie who seems to be having a fair time.
Still wondering what is going to happen here now that Roumania has come in. Wilfrid sends the rumour that Portugal is sending 100,000 men for the Western Front. Here we learn of an alleged ultimatum to Bulgaria to evacuate Servia or feel Roumania’s strength. I wonder!
