[12th November[1917]] The Turkish gunners knew the country and there crumps were falling about our infantry pretty thick. [A]ll the same infantry advancing with mist about must be a very difficult target & I dont think they really did them much damage.
Rifle & machine gun fire was very heavy for the first hour or so too & though a lot of it must have been our own it made us very anxious as to how the infantry were doing.
After a bit word came that the first Turkish works had been taken and as the mist had risen & our guns were getting to work we ceased to be anxious and became simply bored
