Great activity last night over La Tortue.

16 August 1916 Wednesday

Home on first leave this time last year. Came in by the early morning mail 16th August. Afraid it is off now for a bit. Wilfrid who by the way is at Thiepval, thinks leave may reopen in France before October.
Weather still very hot. Now that I have got used to it I enjoy it very much and don’t in the least look forward to winter.
Great activity last night over La Tortue. French were counter attacked heavily and small arms and artillery fire very intense. The Bulgars are pretty well ?blind? now. A week ago they had two aeroplanes. One was brought down by fire and three days ago the other was trapped over our lines by three British machines and surrendered in the air, being escorted back to Salonika without landing.
