Mules. Another incident displays the magnificent determination of these animals. During a sharp contest with a horde of Arab tribesmen, eight of our regimental mules were wounded. All these mules marched back to camp, a distance of some four miles*; yet one of them had a shattered pastern and another was so severely injured in the abdomen that it lay down and died on its arrival.
