The competency of the Brigade staff is a [?] quantity though the Brigadier is himself a good soldier. A Captain being Brigade Major and a major Staff Captain about sums up the situation – all sixes and sevens.
Divisional Staff 22nd Division
Major General Hon F Gordon ..D.S.O
Col Maxwell Scott D.S.O. (Scottish Regt)
Another Col in place of Col Gogarty
Captains Cl[?] and anon!
General Gordon a grand old man has been the making of the Division – keen clever gentlemanly and courteous – a soldier all through. Went to France as Col of a Scotch Regt. Given for his service the Rank of Brigadier General in November 1914 and the Command of the Brigade of Guards. In further acknowledgement of his brilliant qualities was in April given the rank of Major General and the command of the 22nd Division. I wonder where he will end.
Col Scott also a fine soldier. Thank God we have them at the head of things.
