[29 October [?1915]]the motor cars & knowing it to be the King hurried from the scene. Oh My I wish I had such a wonderful lack of vulgar curiosity If I hadnt been in bed as I was (after being on the night runs) I could hardly have resisted going to see what was going on. Just figured it out he felt nothing but simple irritation at the road being blocked for the procession & being stopped taking out his bike to try it.
I dont know what happened to the King, I had heard there was to be a bit of a battle for him to see but it apparently didnt materialize as there was no artillery practically to the head.
I got a break down in a wet beastly night last week due to rather a heavy side slip and had to ride an ordinary bicycle

[29 October [?1915]] My dearest May the Box just has arrived and is awfully well chosen. Everything in it is perfectly as I want it. And the socks are just in time for the ones I’m wearing are going to bits. They are the ones you sent me but I hung them to wear in the fire and damaged them badly. The flag is a ripping one. The pen which I am using is just right. The knife , everything beautifully selected. Thank you awfully dear.
The King came through today. J. with wonderful characteristicness, came back in to the dug-out where I was, really and truly angry. He had seen the arrival in the distance of

[1918] In a few weeks and I am next after him. I think if they can improve railway conditions it will not be very long before that I get away but it is so far and with the immense traffic its very difficult for them.
Now goodbye dearest.

[1918] nothing comes o’ it I do not agree E. O’Brien would be a very helpful kind of man.
I am awfully glad that Nolls better and took no harm from going out and has not got difficult on account of being nursed.

[1918] and industrial ones are taking their place. And the next years are going to be lean years. I do not think there will be much doing for me but you never know I wonder did E. O’Brien give you any help. The mess were greatly amused when I told them that you were arranging for a job for me and thought it a splendid plan! So all will be disappointed if

[1918] I am going to meet an Advisory Committee on Monday with a view to ascertaining any news of jobs etc. they are sending round representatives of the various professions. I do not hope for actual result except perhaps a hint as to prospects and state of market. I am glad Berlin Govt is doing away with the Bolsheviks. National questions are fading into the background

I do not care much what happens

[1918] regular officers that their difficulty is going to be to get enough men. But up to this no officers hardly have gone – Major Thomas is nearly the first to be sent for I do not care much what happens beyond getting away from here. Do you not think that the actual rate of release and numbers dealt with has been beyond all expectations. I think they have done very well.

I have little interest left here. Indeed it is difficult

[1918] I have little interest left here. Indeed it is difficult to keep up an interest as people are going & now we have but 100 out of the 180 or 190 with which we entered Germany.
I have a certain reason for hoping that it wont be very long before officers are released fairly freely and that is that I believe the Army proper has a large surplus of

[1918] Saturday
My dearie, Things are a bit low today the Major went off this morning I had not thought I could have felt it so much as I do. He was awfully glad to go indeed it was time for he is getting on in years and its ridiculous to keep such a type in such an uncongenial occupation. Demobilization now occupies all my thoughts
