[?November -December 1917] All the country around was covered with vines, figs and olives and must be lovely when the crops come up, but it is very bare and rocky looking at this time of year. I was glad to see a lot of Turkish 5.9 shells lying about which shows that he left in a great hurry. I have great hopes of getting a joy ride into Jerusalem in a couple of days but I see no prospect of leave. I wish I did as I am now properly in rags, luckily I have got good boots which is the main thing. My notepaper is nearly finished so I must stop now.
Best love to all,
(Sg.) HENRY.
