[15th August 1916] in loose female garments. He dragged them asunder to find they were hiding a man under their clothes. Out he came and was baynotted  before their eyes. All the animals were destroyed; sheep, cattle, camels were all shot down and soldiers were seen dashing about the houses baynotting the ducks. Some sixty Arabs were killed; the habitations were of mud so could not be burnt, but all property underwent a complete destruction; the towers of defence were blown to fragments. Our casualties were three killed (2 Britishers and 1 Gurkha) and two wounded.
The Turkish communiqué in this little raid was amusing. It states that a British force in gunboats and motor boats attacked their levies at Nasiriyah but were driven off after suffering a loss of 40 killed
