Tuesday: August 22nd 1916: Nasiriyah.
A bomb explosion occurred at dawn this morning. Unfortunately my regiment was the sufferer this time. I was just thinking of creeping out of bed when one of our men came rushing into the camp with the news that a bomb had accidently exploded and some men had been injured. I hastened to the scene beyond No. 2 post at our outer line of defence. I found four men wounded; all peppered with numerous small wounds, none apparently deep, as though they had been struck with a shot-gun. One was wounded in the back, two on the thighs and a fourth in the face. The last was the most serious; he suffered considerably from shock; both eyes were full of mud, very swollen and the sight of at least one, greatly impaired. The men were dressed and hurried to hospital.
