[May-June 1915]

this can well be understood for the town guard consisted only of 1 NCO & 3 privates that night! They began looting and things were just beginning to be serious when the “Blosse Lynch” with the Norfolk regiment on board hove in sight, 200 men were immediately disembarked & the situation saved. More ships arrived & eventually my own brigade, & within a few days the 6th Division had settled down in billets & were preparing to make themselves comfortable, as further advances were not expected until the weather became cooler about September.
