The Library has purchased, or is subscribing to, over 350 databases. They contain E-Journals, E-Books (350,000 E-Books) and other types of data such as video and audio. For queries on accessing these databases, contact the Sub Librarian (Digital Systems and Services) or your Subject Librarian.

Off Campus Access?

  • Off campus access is available to TCD-registered users. If you are having difficulties connecting off campus, please check you have followed the correct steps. You can find these at 'Connecting to Resources Off Campus' on our Off Campus Access page.
  • Electronic Legal Deposit (UK) or eLD (UK), (non-subscription) material is NOT available off-campus. eLD (UK) is available on library-owned PCs, in Library reading rooms, ONLY. The link text in the catalogue record is: "Available on Library reading room PCs only. Click here for access."
  • ATHENS. The Library does not use the Athens system to provide access to e-journals and databases.

  • Cross-National Time-Series Data Archive
  • A data set comprised of more than 200 years of annual data from 1815 onward for over 200 countries. Its 196 variables are used by academia, government, finance and media. Unique to this Archive are the Domestic Conflict Event variables and the corresponding LINKS to the source articles for each event.

  • The Fagel Collection. The Library of Trinity College Dublin FREE resource, launched November 2017.

    The Fagel Library was purchased for Trinity College in 1802. The material in the Fagel Llibrary (including its excellent map collection) ranges in date from 1460 to 1799 and has a particular emphasis on Europe and areas outside Europe where the Dutch had trading or colonial interests. The full collection holds French, Dutch and English works on politics, religion, economics, sciences, natural history and travel, and reflects the professional concerns of the [Fagel] family.

    The Library's new online exhibition using material from the Fagel Collection is now live.

  • Gabriel García Márquez from the Harry Ransom Center, The University of Texas at Austin. FREE resource, launched December 2017.

    The digital archive of Colombian-born writer Gabriel García Márquez includes manuscript drafts of published and unpublished works, research material, photographs, scrapbooks, correspondence, clippings, notebooks, screenplays, printed material, ephemera, and an audio recording of García Márquez's acceptance speech for the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1982. The searchable, online archive is comprised of approximately 27,500 items from García Márquez's papers, and was made possible by a Digitizing Hidden Special Collections and Archives grant from the Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR). The Center also gratefully acknowledges the cooperation of Gabriel García Márquez's family.

    PhilPapers is a comprehensive index of philosophy books and articles. PhilPapers offers features such as real-time indexing of pre-prints, fine-grained classification by topic, email alerts, reading lists, advanced search functionality, and discussion forums.

  • Portráidí [September 2017]

    A growing archive of digital portraits (accompanied by biographical notes) of living Irish-language writers, related to the print book: Portráidí na Scríbhneoirí Gaeilge (2016). Portraits commissioned by Foras na Gaeilge and taken by Máire Uí Mhaicín. Biographies and technical solution COMHAR Teo. Contains extracts from published works and sound files.

  • ProQuest Social Science Premium Collection
  • [2017]

    This collection provides access to databases covering international literature in social sciences, including politics, public policy, sociology, social work, anthropology, criminology, linguistics, library science and education. Featured databases include IBSS, Sociological Abstracts and Worldwide Political Science Abstracts. Together, they provide abstracts, indexing and full-text coverage of journal articles, books, book chapters, dissertations, working papers and more. See list of databases here.

    This package contains a total of 3,182 titles, 48% of which will be new to IReL. ProQuest took the decision to provide IReL members with additional content with no extra cost as the CSA collections are going to cease as distinct entities by the end of 2017. Access to CSA titles will be via this new ProQuest Social Science Premium Collection in the future.
