#8 Launching Berkeley50

This week, the Berkeley50 programme of events was officially launched by the Provost, Patrick Prendergast. You can read the Provost’s speech here.

To promote the launch, our friends at Trinity’s Public Affairs and Communications commissioned a short film from Dublin film-maker Leen Tangney.

This led to us being featured on the RTÉ news – watch the RTÉ clip here.

In preparation for the event, we decided to put up artwork around the building, mainly using iconic photographs of the Berkeley sourced from the Royal Institute of British Architects, which we’ve also been using on this website.

Despite a fairly miserable day, the building looked well from the outside, with window decals and coloured uplighters.

Following an introduction by the Librarian and College Archivist Helen Shenton, we were delighted to welcome one of Dublin’s foremost scholars on the history of modern architecture, Dr Ellen Rowley.

Ellen has been a true friend to the Berkeley50 project and didn’t disappoint with her talk. To enable more to hear her speak, we will be inviting her to talk again in a fortnight – book now!
