Biography

Marta Lasek-Markey is a PhD researcher in EU Labour Law. Her research, supervised by Prof. Mark Bell and funded by the Irish Research Council, is a qualitative study exploring the precarious status of posted workers in the EU. Marta holds an LL.M. degree (with distinction) form Trinity College Dublin, as well as a Master of Laws degree from the University of Warsaw, Poland.

Simultaneously to her legal studies, between 2007-2016 Marta pursued a career in journalism. She holds a Bachelor of Arts (hons) degree in Journalism from the University of Warsaw. In Poland Marta worked in the Business department of Gazeta Wyborcza, a national daily newspaper with its roots in Lech Wałęsa’s ‘Solidarity’ movement. During her time there, she conducted hundreds of interviews in the field of Business and Employment. She interviewed workers and regional CEOs of companies such as Amazon, Bosch, Google, IBM, Nestlé, Nokia. She has extensive experience researching stories, contacting individuals and organisations, framing and positing questions, writing and editing interviews, and dealing with sensitive issues such as consent and confidentiality.
