TurningPoint Interactive Polling

TurningPoint is an easy-to-use live polling service that allows lecturers or presenters to ask interactive questions, track participant progress and receive instant feedback.

The TurningPoint service has been integrated with Blackboard virtual learning environment (VLE) so that lecturers can easily create and access polls from within Blackboard. This also means that question/poll lists can be created based on specific modules and allow students in that module to respond to the poll questions.

During class or a presentation, students can respond to a poll from any device (Windows, Mac, tablet, smartphone) by going to a specific URL link provided by the lecturer or presenter.

Getting started

If you have never used TurningPoint before, please refer to the 'New licence request' section below.

If you have used TurningPoint before, please refer to the 'Existing licence' section below.

New licence request

If you have never used TurningPoint before, then you will need to self-register for a Turning account.

After doing this, you can request a TurningPoint licence from IT Services.

Information about how to self-register for a Turning account is available on the following page:

TurningPoint account self registration process

Once registered, email the IT Service Desk with the subject 'TurningPoint licence request' to request the licence.

Existing licence

If you have previously used TurningPoint (at any time in the past) for setting up question polls in Trinity, this means you already have a Turning account and a licence. There is no need to re-apply for a licence year on year.

Using TurningPoint

For information about how to use TurningPoint from within Blackboard, log into your Blackboard account and search for the TurningPoint user guides in the Staff Help section.

Please note:

  • We do not recommend using TurningPoint polls for assessment scoring
  • We do not recommend using TurningPoint polls as a method of recording attendance in class or at lectures
  • The Licence will allow up to 500 participant students for any one poll to respond
