Rolling out the new version of Microsoft Edge
Earlier this year Microsoft released an improved version of their Edge web browser which is included on all supported Windows PCs. Edge is essentially the successor to Internet Explorer, although this remains in place for those who still need to use it. The updated version of Edge has been reprogrammed to use the same ‘engine’ as Google Chrome, improving performance and reducing compatibility issues.
In recent months Microsoft has made the updated version of Edge available globally through their regular Windows Updates. IT Services actively manages the deployment of such updates to College PCs on the teaching and research network in offices and labs, and on Staff Wi-Fi, and from Monday 24th August we will be gradually rolling out this updated version of Edge to such PCs.
This rollout will be automatic and no action will be required by you beyond the normal steps for accepting the installation of Windows Updates, however you may notice a new icon for Edge, as shown below. Should you encounter any technical issues related to Edge please contact the IT Service Desk.
