What’s new for you from Teaching & Learning IT in 2018?

We know that IT is a big part of your studies in Trinity.  That’s why we’re always working to improve the IT services that help support you.  Here is what’s new for you from Teaching & Learning IT in 2018:

New PCs in the computer rooms

Over the summer, we replaced 60 old PCs with brand new ones in the computer rooms located across campus.  You can also find new PCs in College Green, Dartry, Gas Building (D’Olier Street) and Goldsmith Hall Computer Rooms.

For more information on where you can find all the computer rooms in Trinity please see https://www.tcd.ie/itservices/facilities/kb/map.php

Access to Software

Your lecturers spoke to us and we listened.  There is a wide variety of software in the IT Services Computer Rooms on campus, as well as site licenses that allow us to offer some software for use on your own computer for the duration of your studies.

We also offer a cloud-service called MyTrinityApps that gives easy access to a selection of the most popular academic application software for use on your own Windows laptop.  New for this Academic Year: you can access MyTrinityApps while you are in Trinity and connected to the Wi-Fi network or when you are at home and connected to your own Wi-Fi Network.

Lecture Theatres & Audio-visual equipment upgrades

We have upgraded the audio-visual equipment in 9 Lecture Theatres and Teaching Rooms across Trinity. All the audio-visual equipment has been replaced with brand, new state of the art equipment in:

  • Room 1.26 in Foster Place
  • Rooms 4050A and 4050B in the Arts Building
  • Lecture Theatres M20 and M21 in the Museum Building
  • Lecture Theatres LTEE 2 and LTEE 3 in the East End
  • Seminar Room 1A in Goldsmith Hall

Finally, new projector equipment was installed in the MacNeil Lecture Theatre over the Summer.

Huddle Spaces for student group project work

Your fellow students spoke to us and we listened.  Last year we introduced new Huddle Spaces in Arts Room 4066 where you could connect your laptop or mobile device to share and present your ideas for collaborative and group project work. The Huddle Spaces have moved and are now located on the Concourse of the Arts Building in new specially built pods.  We hope you like them!

Sync your timetable with your email & calendar

Blackboard Learn VLE - iCal Timetable has been launched.  This service allows you to sync your timetable to your MyZone Calendar, or to any other external calendar service that you access and use, so it will keep you update with calendar notifications and alerts on your mobile phone or tablet. There is information on our website on how you can setup and sync your timetable see - https://www.tcd.ie/itservices/vle/kb/vle-ical.php .

We hope that all of these improvements will continue to help you throughout your time in Trinity.  Let us know what you think.
