Upgrade works to the TCD Local Web Portal platform
The maintenance works have been completed successfully.
If trying to access the TCD Local Web Portal from off-campus (and without a VPN connection), you will first be brought to the Trinity Microsoft login page. Once you pass through the Microsoft login page, you will be able to access the TCD Local Web Portal platform as before.
If trying to access the Portal from the campus network (or via a VPN connection), you will not be brought to the Microsoft login page.
Essential maintenance will be undertaken on the TCD Local Web Portal platform between 8:00 and 09:00 on Monday, 24th January 2022
During the maintenance window, the following services may be inaccessible:
- Research Support System (RSS)
- The Asset Register
- The Telephone Directory system
- Images on the PeopleFinder staff profiles
Changes to how you can access the TCD Local Web Portal platform from off campus
Once the maintenance has been completed, if trying to access any of the TCD Local Web Portal platform services from off-campus (and without a VPN connection) you will be prompted to log into the Trinity Microsoft login page.
If you are on campus and connected to the College network, you will not be brought to this login page. The same is true if you are off-campus but connected to the College VPN service.
Logging into the TCD Local Web Portal
On you reach the TCD Local Web Portal, you will be prompted to enter a username and password. Your username should be in the form 'bloggsj' and not 'firstname.lastname@example.org'.
If your password does not work, you may need to re-register for the service.

Scheduled maintenance on the TCD Local Web Portal platform will be undertaken between 8:00 and 10:00 on Thursday, 16th December, 2021.
Scheduled maintenance on the TCD Local Web Portal platform will be undertaken between 8:00 and 10:00 on Thursday, 9th December, 2021.
The TCD Local Web Portal platform requires emergency upgrade works to fix a security vulnerability. We are scheduling this upgrade with the vendor and will advise on the date and time for the completion of these works as soon as possible.
While we await this work, Trinity staff can continue to access and use all of the services available on the TCD Local Web Portal, including the Research Support System (RSS), the Web Asset Register and the Telephone Directory maintenance application.
However, from 4pm, Friday 29th October 2021, to lessen the security risk these services will be restricted to availability on the Trinity network (wired or Wi-Fi) on campus and to those working remotely using the Trinity Virtual Private Network (VPN).
How will this impact me?
There will be no impact for you if you are working from your office and connected to the Trinity network.
If you are working remotely and you wish to access the Research Support System (RSS), the Web Asset Register and the Telephone Directory maintenance applications on the Trinity Local Web Portal you will need to use the Trinity VPN.

How will this impact information appearing on web pages on the Trinity website?
The following information which is stored on the Research Support System will not appear when you visit the www.tcd.ie website from outside Trinity:
- Research Support System - Expertise search
- Research Themes - People Profiles
- Research Themes - Publications
- Media Directory of Experts
- Research student profiles
- Staff images on PeopleFinder, websites and profiles on School and Departmental websites
It will still be available if you visit the website and are connected to the Trinity network on campus or using the Trinity VPN.
It is expected that access will all be fully restored when the upgrade works have been completed.
