Restrictions to Video File Uploads in Blackboard
On 12th October, IT Services will be implementing a restriction on the upload of video files directly to Blackboard.
We are implementing this restriction because uploading video files to Blackboard places a large strain on Trinity's storage allocation. To ease this strain, we ask that all staff use their Blackboard module’s Panopto folder to host media content for their modules.
Panopto gives a much better experience for students when they view media as it will stream and adjust the quality dynamically based on the student's connection speed.
How to use Panopto in Blackboard
You can use Panopto to record sessions and also to upload existing video files from other applications such as Camtasia, Zoom or Teams. Content created in or uploaded to Panopto will not count against your module’s quota.
Please add Panopto to your module then use the Create, Upload Media option to upload your file.
How to create and upload video files using Panopto
If you have any issues uploading a video to Panopto contact the IT Service Desk at itservicedesk@tcd.ie.
