IT Services Alerts - Work complete: Wi-Fi coverage tuning & refining

Last updated: Wednesday 23rd March 2016, 6pm

The large-scale improvements delivered as part of the Mobility Project included the installation of approximately 2000 new Wi-Fi access points across 150 buildings, covering approximately 300,000 sq.m. of Trinity working space.  Following the completion of this project on 30th November 2015, further work tuning and refining the Wi-Fi network was required in a small number of locations.

The Wi-Fi service comprises of a legacy 2.4 GHz service and a more-current 5 GHz service, which the majority of devices connect to. An issue was identified with connectivity on the 2.4 GHz service.  Third-party suppliers and the original equipment manufacturers (OEM) assisted in resolving this issue by late January 2016 and our monitoring since then indicates that the Wi-Fi coverage issues in the small number of affected buildings has been resolved.

If you have successfully connected your device to the Wi-Fi service in Trinity but are experiencing Wi-Fi coverage issues in specific areas, then please contact the IT Service Desk with the details, outlining what device you are using, the location where you experience issues and how frequently these issues occur.

Minor scheduled works are due in the following locations:

  • 31st March - Houses 7, 8, 9, 33, 34, 36, 37 - access point repositioning required
  • Date TBC - House 85 in Trinity Hall, Dartry - tempoary access point in place, permanent fixture required
