Conflict Resolution and Reconciliation Belfast field trips

Over the past two weeks, students taking the module; Reconciliation in Northern Ireland have been engaged in ethnographic fieldtrips, visiting areas of Belfast most scarred by the legacy of the conflict. During this time they have visited museums in East Belfast (The Andy Tyrie Interpretative Centre) and in West Belfast (The Eileen Hickey Memorial Museum) whilst also visiting Clonard monastery to hear about the role of the Redemptorist community in helping to generate a climate of peace.

The challenging and thought provoking trips also included engaging in plenary sessions with former combatants. This element of grassroots engagement with community organisations is a key aspect to learning about peace and conflict in Northern Ireland's transitional environment.
