ISE hosts PESTUGE Erasmus plus Programme

ISE staff and students enjoyed hosting the latest study visit in the PESTUGE Erasmus plus programme, which is establishing Peace Studies in four universities in Georgia. Colleagues from Tbilisi spent several days in ISE Dublin discussing key concepts in Peace Studies before heading to ISE's Belfast campus.

There, they met with ISE staff and students, and partner NGOs, to see how our Belfast programme uses its post-conflict social context as a learning opportunity in its teaching of conflict resolution and reconciliation.

The Georgian colleagues later went on to visit another PESTUGE partner in Derry, INCORE at Ulster University, to learn about their approach to peace and conflict studies.

The ten day programme ended with the PESTUGE colleagues meeting a delegation of academics from Abkhazia (funded under the UNDP's COBERM, confidence building funds). This unique and moving encounter enabled a dialogue between the Georgians and Abkhazians facilitated by the Glencree Centre for Reconciliation in the Dublin mountains.

We look forward to the next stage of the PESTUGE project. This will involve a peace research workshop and evaluation of new peace studies modules in Tblisi in April 2017.
