International Peace Studies Seminar with Front Line Defenders: Defending Human Rights in Western Sahara with Djimi Elghalia - Wednesday 27 March 2019

Djimi Elghalia is a distinguished human rights activist from Western Sahara - she is the Vice President of the ASVDH, an organisation that documents human rights abuses against the Sahrawi people of Western Sahara, and she is also a member of the Committee for the Families of Disappeared Saharawis. She herself was subjected to enforced disappearance in 1981, and again for 3 and a half years from 1987 to 1991, after participating in a protest against the Moroccan occupation. In 2016 Djimi received the prestigious "Pimentel Fonseca" award for her peaceful struggle for the rights of others.
