University Times Reports on North Belfast Youth Project Co-founded by Dr Brendan Browne

Nov 2019

The University Times recently featured an innovative new project co-founded by Dr Brendan Ciarán Browne (with Dr Emma Keelan, and Mr Alan Waits). The initiative run by Dr Emma Keelan in partnership with R-CITY (Communities Integrated Through Youth), looks to provide opportunities for young people living in one of the most marginalised areas of Belfast. Focussing on health awareness and healthy living, the project engages young people through introducing them to new opportunities beyond their everyday experience. Participants learn about first aid, emergency responses, disability awareness as well as careers in the health field. The work has been supported by a range of medical professionals, across all healthcare trusts in Northern Ireland, and the British Medical Association, NI. Dr. Browne has twice been nominated for college’s Civic Engagement Award, this year jointly with Dr David Mitchell, and regularly places MPhil student interns with RCity and other local organisations engaged in transformative work in Belfast.
