SMALLHORNE, Jimmy (director, scriptwriter, actor) ()

Born in Dublin, Jimmy Smallhorne grew up in Ballymun and spent some years living on the streets before going into rehabilitation to be treated for a gambling addiction. He then moved to New York to pursue an acting career. While he was working on construction sites, he founded his own theatre company, the Irish Bronx Theater. With a miniscule budget, Smallhorne made 2BY4, a drama about a young man confronting his homosexuality set against the background of the New York construction sites. Smallhorne played the lead in the film as well as contributing to the original screenplay. The final film was scripted by Fergus Tighe. In 2000, Smallhorne played Mickey O’Fagan in WHEN THE SKY FALLS.
