Performance Management

The PMDS website can be found here:

Trinity College Dublin is committed to performance management for all staff. The aim of our performance management system is to strengthen and develop our individual and group engagement in Trinity and our accomplishments.

We are currently in the process of transitioning from our previous Performance Management Development System (PMDS) to a new Feedback for Performance System. HR are currently redeveloping the Performance Management policy, and a new framework for feedback conversations.

The first phase of this project has been completed and forms our probation system - incorporating  a probation policy and an online probation form for staff in their first year in a new role.

The second phase is in two parts:

  1. A redeveloped performance management policy and,
  2. The purchase/development of an IT Tool /System to support performance conversations and the recording and monitoring of goals on an ongoing basis for staff after their first year and throughout their career. We are currently piloting one such product.

Information on this project is available at:

In this period of transition managers are continuing to have performance conversations throughout Trinity.

The performance management system is supported by a learning and development programme which will encompass areas such as Quality and Service; Leadership Strategic Planning; Managing Self and Others and Technical Competence. This catalogue of training will be launched in September and arose from a recent learning needs analysis in Trinity.
